NewsTrove - So, I'm studying radar now
From: www.poe-news.com

"Namor 02/02/06, 12:49 0 I'm learning all kinds of interesting things. Radar is a navigation system, not a radio system. So while radar isn't rate-specific for me, it is a major piece of equipment for the other half of my division (my division being NavOps) so radiomen get some training on it. Our instructor is a salty old 1st class who is pleasantly open about his bitterness on being passed over for chief 8 times (so far) despite the fact that he is one of the system experts the Navy goes to for nav equipment, as well as the first person the Atlantic half of the sub force goes to for navigation issues onboard particular ships."

A few people dropped a few bucks in my Honor System drop box; it meant the world to me (and a couple weeks' groceries, too). Little things mean a lot when you're up against it."

The study of this question is called epistemology. Although the question it addresses is basic, epistemology has traditionally been considered to be of legitimate interest only to philosophers, theologians, and three-year-old children who respond to every statement by asking, "Why?"

From: enjoyment.independent.co.uk

"The union has launched a campaign calling on artists, record producers and promoters to tell audiences if a performance is mimed. From now on, it says, lip-synching should be clearly labelled. People who pay for a concert ticket or watch a music television show should have the right to know whether it is live or not, the union says. Before a singer uses lip-synching, a logo should be flashed on screen warning it will be done. Concert promoters should also make it clear to people before they buy tickets that part of a show would be mimed, the union says."

"The Asylum Street Spankers essentially live in that era, but they also bring it alive. Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1994, the Spankers take blues, jazz, ragtime, country and parlor songs, approach them with a post-modern attitude, humor and energy and wind up with a timeless sound. Considered an unbeatable live act, the all-acoustic Spankers might cover Duke Ellington, or maybe Prince. Musical saws could be involved. You could say that the band never takes itself seriously, but these are some serious musicians and the kind of history lesson that more people should hear."

"The record industry began the new year with familiar tidings of gloom. As news came in that the 2005 tally of album sales in America had slumped by a whopping 7 per cent, and a more modest 2.7 per cent in the UK, it was announced that Sony BMG Music Entertainment in America would be making further redundancies. Industry analysts stifled a yawn as this latest round of "consolidation" took the total number of jobs cut since Sony and BMG merged less than two years ago to almost 2,000, or roughly 25 per cent of the companies' newly combined workforce. With consolidation like that, who needs terminal decline?"
